To be able to vote you must have the right to vote and be registered on the electoral roll in a municipality.

Who has the right to vote?

• Norwegian citizens who have reached 18 years of age before the end of 2023, who are, or have been, registered in the Central Population Register as resident in Norway.
• Citizens of Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Sweden who have reached 18 years of age before the end of 2023, who are registered in the Central Population Register as resident in Norway at the latest 30 June 2023.
• Persons who are not Norwegian citizens, but have reached 18 years of age before the end of 2023 and have been registered in the Central Population Register as resident in Norway for the last three years before election day.

Diplomatic service or consulate staff and their households have the right to vote, even if they do not comply with the residence criterion.

Are you registered on the electoral roll?

The electoral roll (manntall) is an overview of persons with the right to vote in a municipality. If you are a resident of Norway you are automatically registered on the electoral roll in the municipality in which you are registered in the Central Population Register as resident on 30 June 2023.

You can vote in advance from any municipality; however, if you intend to vote on election day you must do so at a polling station in the municipality in which you are registered on the electoral roll.

If you are moving to another municipality you must notify the Central Population Register before 30 June to become registered on the electoral roll in the new municipality. If you move to another municipality after this date, you will be registered on the electoral roll in the municipality you move from.

Do you live abroad, on Svalbard or Jan Mayen?

Voters living or staying abroad, may vote in advance from 3 July to 1 September.

Do you wish to check if you are correctly registered on the electoral roll?

The electoral roll for Øygarden muncipality will be publicly available before the end of July, so that citizens can check their own information and submit an appeal if there are errors in the electoral roll. You can find the electoral roll at the town hall in Straume, and the libraries (innbyggartorg og bibliotek) at Sartor Storsenter, Rong Senter and Sund Senter.

Early voting

From 3 July to 9 August you can cast an early vote in any municipality if you do not have the opportunity to vote in the ordinary advance voting period or on election day.

In Øygarden, early voting can be done at the library (innbyggjartorg) at Sartor Storsenter within normal opening hours (Mon-Wed, and Fri: 10.00 – 16.00, Thurs: 12.00-19.00, Sat: 10.00-15.00).

Advance voting

You can vote in advance in any municipality from 10 August to 8 September.

In Øygarden, advance voting can be done at the three libraries (innbyggartorg) at Sartor Storsenter, Sund Senter, and Rong Senter. It is also possible to vote in advance at health institutions and high schools at certain dates.

Voting on election day

Election day is 11 September. On this day, you must vote in the municipality in which you are registered in the Central Population Register as a resident as of 30 June.

You can vote at any polling station in the municipality.

Voting from another country

From 1 July to 1 September, voters who live or are staying in a foreign country can vote in advance at Norwegian embassies and other foreign service missions or at other appointed returning officers.

Voting from home

Voters who are sick or disabled can apply to vote from home. To apply, please use this form or call the muncipality at 56 16 00 00. 

The application deadline is Wednesday 6 September, 15.00.

Remember to bring your ID

You must bring your ID in order to vote. As a minimum, the ID must state your name, date of birth and carry a photo.

It is not necessary to bring your polling card in order to vote.
